Choosing a New Disposer

When you need a new disposer there are some things to consider before you purchase one. There are many different models on the market ranging from standard models to elite models which in turn can make choosing the one that is right for your needs a little confusing since various factors may come into play.

Here at Olin Plumbing we like to help our customers through the process of choosing a new disposer, we can inform you of the various differences between models and answer any questions you may have. Ultimately the choice is up to you though, so we provide all of our customers with the ability to pick the disposer they would like to have in their home.

We carry 4 models on our service trucks at all times so there is no waiting on product delivery. The InSinkErator® models we carry on our service trucks include the Badger® 1, Badger® 5, Badger® 5XP and the InSinkErator® 333 series. With a selection such as this we are confident we have what you need. However, if you should desire a model we do not stock, let us know and we will do our best to get it for you in a timely manner.

Garbage Disposal Installation
There's a Right Way and a Wrong Way

There is both a right way and a wrong way of doing things, and the same holds true when it comes to the installation of disposals, there is both an incorrect way and a proper way to have your disposal installed? Over the years Olin Plumbing has seen thousands of disposal installations and some times we find that the disposal has been installed incorrectly causing it not to function as it should. Sure it works, but not up to its fullest ability which can leave you frustrated to say the least.

One of the most common things we encounter when it comes to improper installation of a disposal pertains to the drain installation for the disposer. We find a lot of disposers drain through continuous waste before entering into the kitchen sink drain. This process will slow the waste from your disposer down and could cause the kitchen sink drain to become sluggish or stopped up.

The manufacturer sends a disposer 90, a 90 degree garbage disposal elbow with every new disposer. Proper disposal installation should always include a disposer 90. The reason for this is because when the disposer drains it should drain into the waste P trap so you get better flow with less resistance which will help keep you from experiencing a premature stoppage.

Counter Top Replacements and New Sink Installations

Another problem we see especially when it comes to counter top replacements and new sink installations is that most people do not even think about the disposer installation until after the fact, when it is to late. This can cause problems and may also prevent you from installing the disposer that you originally desired leaving you with only limited choices or no choices at all.

If you are thinking about having your sink replaced or new granite counter tops installed BEFORE the installation of the disposer is done make sure to record the height of the existing drain coming out of the wall. Many times people want their new sinks to be deeper and would like a disposer as well, but if the drain is higher than the outlet on the disposer it will hold water and waste in the disposer at all times and this is not a good thing to have happen.

Final Things To Consider Regarding Garbage Disposals

There are other things as well to consider when it comes to disposers besides the few things we have discussed above. If you are in need of a new disposer or thinking about replacing your counter top or sink please consider calling Olin Plumbing for a professional and honest opinion about your installation.
