00:00:00:06 - 00:00:02:21
Hello, my name is Derek Olin, owner of Olin Plumbing.

00:00:02:21 - 00:00:05:09
Today we're going to be showing you how to test a

00:00:05:18 - 00:00:09:16
1 inch Wilkins 975 XL RP device.

00:00:09:29 - 00:00:11:08
This is a backflow device.

00:00:11:08 - 00:00:14:08
And generally the tests are done annually

00:00:14:12 - 00:00:17:29
required by the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County.

00:00:18:15 - 00:00:21:03
So to show you

00:00:21:03 - 00:00:24:22
what and what this is for and explain to you

00:00:25:17 - 00:00:29:22
why it is important to have these devices and also have them tested.

00:00:30:10 - 00:00:32:16
Here we go.

00:00:32:16 - 00:00:35:16
Basically I just use two hoses on this

00:00:36:09 - 00:00:39:09
as opposed to the three that comes with the kit.

00:00:39:21 - 00:00:42:21
What we're going to be doing is testing.

00:00:43:13 - 00:00:46:13
First we're going to test check valve number 1.

00:00:46:28 - 00:00:49:28
We hook the low hose.

00:00:50:16 - 00:00:52:22
And the high hose up

00:00:52:22 - 00:00:56:02
to the number 2 and number 3 test cocks on the device,

00:00:57:02 - 00:01:01:08
the valve service valve leaving the device is in the off position.

00:01:01:24 - 00:01:07:07
And the number 1 ball valve feed valve is in the on position.

00:01:08:10 - 00:01:11:06
And these valves have to be tested wet.

00:01:11:06 - 00:01:13:25
So I'm going to

00:01:13:25 - 00:01:17:06
turn on the number 1 2 number 2 test cock.

00:01:17:22 - 00:01:20:22
And the number 3 test cock.

00:01:21:26 - 00:01:25:00
Now we want a reading of 5 pounds or more

00:01:26:23 - 00:01:27:27
on this uh...

00:01:27:27 - 00:01:30:27
On this check valve.

00:01:37:23 - 00:01:42:20
Here we have a reading of 8.2.

00:01:43:17 - 00:01:47:22
Now the relief valve, which is located at the bottom of the device here,

00:01:48:13 - 00:01:54:03
that has to open at a minimum of 2 PSIs.

00:01:55:23 - 00:01:58:05
And it also has to be at least

00:01:58:05 - 00:02:02:27
3 pounds less than the 8.2 that we have here.

00:02:03:05 - 00:02:07:06
Otherwise, that check valve or that relief valve is not opening properly.

00:02:07:06 - 00:02:08:03
So to do that,

00:02:09:25 - 00:02:12:06
we will

00:02:12:06 - 00:02:15:04
open up the high side, the low side

00:02:15:04 - 00:02:18:04
and while watching the gauge I hold my hand underneath

00:02:18:27 - 00:02:24:13
and as soon as water touches it, okay, it opened at 3.4.

00:02:26:09 - 00:02:30:20
So 3.4 to 8.2

00:02:31:22 - 00:02:33:10
is more than sufficient.

00:02:34:07 - 00:02:37:07
And now we're going to check the number 2

00:02:38:28 - 00:02:40:13
check valve.

00:02:40:23 - 00:02:44:14
We hook the low hose to test cock number 4

00:02:45:03 - 00:02:48:03
and the high hose to test cock number 3.

00:02:49:19 - 00:02:50:27
And...

00:02:52:14 - 00:02:54:03
we turn the

00:02:55:05 - 00:02:56:18
to on

00:02:57:09 - 00:03:00:09
pressurize our gauge.

00:03:00:26 - 00:03:03:18
Now test cock or check valve number 2

00:03:03:18 - 00:03:07:01
has to hold a minimum of 1 PSI of back pressure.

00:03:19:12 - 00:03:22:01
And here we're sitting at 2.1.

00:03:22:01 - 00:03:25:01
This valve is in great shape.

00:03:25:16 - 00:03:26:17
Depressurize it.

00:03:26:17 - 00:03:29:17
Turn the test cocks off.

00:03:32:00 - 00:03:35:02
And we'll turn the service back on to the residence.

00:03:36:00 - 00:03:38:10
And there you have it.

00:03:38:10 - 00:03:39:20
We're off to the next one.
